You should prepare a safe room for your kitten so that it can get used to all the new smells and surroundings. You should keep toys and a scratching post within the room for it to play with. Put water and food in this room as well.
New kittens will be nervous and will often hide. You can set up a cardboard box or sheets over top of chairs to create this. Make sure that they dont have any furniture like beds until they are used to your house.
Put a piece of your clothing in the safe room so it will get used to your sent. Then you should start out visiting it for short periods of time. You can play or pet it, or just be in the room reading while it's there.
